Battle Of Princeton (1777) by way of "Loose Files And American Scramble"

Loose Files And American Scramble is an extremely approachable yet subtly detailed little rule set, buried in an old copy of Wargames Illustrated magazine, which included it in one of its issues. You can snag a free copy of the rules, re-mastered with nice illustrations and some rules author commentary mixed throughout over here: https://www.wargamesillustrated.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Loose-Files-and-American-Scramble-Ruleset.pdf

So, first up for using these rules is a quick match of Battle Of Princeton (1777), which was not large by any means, but very important for the cause of the Continentals. https://www.battlefields.org/learn/revolutionary-war/battles/princeton and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Princeton offer a good basic overview of the maneuvering beforehand and the battle itself.

Speaking of pre battle maneuvering, here is a great graphic of that for the Battle Of Princeton, as created by the US Army War College.

So, what scenario information to use? Thankfully, Little Wars TV had made up their own rev war rules, interestingly enough, a supposed simplification of Loose Files, called Live Free Or Die, which is available over here: https://www.littlewarstv.com/live-free-or-die.html

So, nicely enough, the folks at Little Wars TV have a FREE Battle Of Princeton scenario, available over here: https://www.littlewarstv.com/lfod-support.html (top left at time of writing this entry)

This Mount Vernon article: https://www.mountvernon.org/library/digitalhistory/digital-encyclopedia/article/battle-of-princeton is a very well done summary of the battle. Its included images, when you find the original sized ones, offer a really nice combined view of the Phases of the battle as it unfolds.

And Their Phase III and IV Battle Graphics. Well done!

Next question is, how will I make a tabletop simulator module for this battle? Woops, someone already has over here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?l=dutch&id=2792091977

I had to modify it a tad to get it Loose Files ready, but here is the starting point of that module, minus placing the figures out in their initial setup. I'll start doing that in Part II for this series of articles.

The table is set. The Continentals are afoot. Chaos ensues. More soon as I schedule when to hold a video taped run through of the first turns of the match. I'll then likely finish it up as play by post.
