It's a Rev War Three-Way: Ultimate General - American Revolution

Image
We start the trio off with a little light petting, then we move on to play some Ultimate General: American Revolution developed by f-Mod, and produced by Game Labs Inc. Some Choose Your Life Path style choices are made at the beginning of the long form British Campaign, as seen in this sequence of screeners. We then move on the long form British Campaign, as we arrive in the colonies. Ripe for adventure and mayhem. Just a quick taste. We are into the first month now. One of the first tasks we are provided is to setup logistics and appoint new aids. A bit Paradox Interactive of the designers here. So far so good. Easy interface, and almost everything have text overlay tips and instructions. Full Gallery Of Screenshots:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/toom25PzER2RBZPJ7

It's a Rev War Three-Way: Introduction

Image
I've been on a Rev War kick of late. I've been reading the latest from the Rick Atkinson series of rev war history books:  https://rickatkinson.com/   and I've been re-reading the Nathaniel Phibrick  https://www.nathanielphilbrick.com/ trilogy as well. An outstanding game, and arguably the best of the bunch, but let's not make this a competition. Interestingly Philip Thibaut is a game designer on both of the last two we'll be ru...

Close Combat - The Longest Day: Battle Of Basly (Scenario #3)

Image
After actions continue in Close Combat : The Longest Day, arguably one of the better of the Close Combat series.  First two objectives taken. City center taken. Many enemy routed or killed. Truce offered by the enemy. Mission completed.

Close Combat: The Longest Day - Campaign Run Thru, Part 1 of Many

Image
Close Combat: The Longest Day is one of the best of the series, from my limited play of it at least. Just a rock solid wargame. Good ambiance, nice morale mechanics. Well done all around. Starting the first mission of the many provided. Will report again only after I get to the summary screen, win or lose.

Battle Of Princeton (1777) by way of "Loose Files And American Scramble"

Image
Loose Files And American Scramble is an extremely approachable yet subtly detailed little rule set, buried in an old copy of Wargames Illustrated magazine, which included it in one of its issues. You can snag a free copy of the rules, re-mastered with nice illustrations and some rules author commentary mixed throughout over here:  https://www.wargamesillustrated.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Loose-Files-and-American-Scramble-Ruleset.pdf So, first up for using these rules is a quick match of Battle Of Princeton (1777) , which was not large by any means, but very important for the cause of the Continentals.  https://www.battlefields.org/learn/revolutionary-war/battles/princeton and  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Princeton offer a good basic overview of the maneuvering beforehand and the battle itself.  Speaking of pre battle maneuvering, here is a great graphic of that for the Battle Of Princeton, as created by the US Army War College. So, what scenario ...
